Burnt-crust pizza at Remo's

Matthew Seger apparently thought the pizza oven at Remo's could use a little more heat. His solution: set fire to the toilet paper in the bathroom.

Yikes. I've heard of burnt toilet paper at Taco Bell (ba-dum-bum), but not at a pizza place.

Retro Streets of Stamford posts!

Since this snow has all of us stuck inside, let's fire up the flux capacitor, hit 88 miles per hour, and go back in time! I've managed to scrape together most of my early posts from the now-defunct Mr. Stamford blog and re-created them on my current one with their original posting dates. I've even included screen-caps of the original comments for your perusing pleasure. Enjoy!

March 8, 2008: Puttin' up the Ritz, where I wrote about the exciting development about to be built at the corner of Tresser Boulevard and Atlantic Street. (Current status: a nice flat patch of dirt.)

March 27, 2008: Boycott Pitney Bowes!, where I wrote about how Pitney Bowes killed Stamford's plan for a baseball stadium or concert/sports arena.

May 14, 2008: R.I.P. Stamford Whole Foods/The South (End) shall rise again, where I wrote about the death of our dream of having our very own Whole Foods, and the beginning of Harbor Point's rise from the ashes of Canal Street.

May 23, 2008: The most exclusive neighborhood in Stamford, where I wrote about Wallack's Point and Caritas Island.

June 26, 2008: More cherry tree nonsense, where I wrote about how some people were losing their minds about the city's plan to cut down the old, dying cherry trees in Mill River Park.

July 20, 2008: Downtown Stamford is dead, where I list all of the empty lots and storefronts in downtown Stamford. (Update: They're all still empty. WTF??)

What's up with Schakolad?

I stopped by Schakolad the other day to get some chocolate (obviously), and saw this sign on the door:

Their outgoing voicemail message says basically the same thing. Does anybody have any information about this? It would be a shame to lose another business on Bedford Street - especially such a tasty one!

CT baseball news

Following up on my monumental trip to see all three Connecticut baseball teams in the same summer and Notesy's scoop about the Defenders moving to Virginia, I've got the latest local baseball news - Norwich is getting a new team! The Oneonta Tigers have decided to move to the Casino Coast of Connecticut for the 2010 season. You know what this means: road trip!

This town is really going to the dogs (and cats)

The Downtown Special Services District is looking for people to paint, sculpt and decorate cats and dogs for this summer's outdoor art display. Check out their flyer for details:

I once made a clay ashtray in third grade, so I'm virtually guaranteed a dog of my own! I think I'll sculpt it so it looks like it's taking a dump in The Hole.
