Sabatiello's...done?

On my way to the Avon last night to see Chuck Norris save America in Invasion U.S.A., I walked past Sabatiello's and saw this:

The place was dark and empty at 7:30 on a Thursday night. Is it closed?

It would appear so. Is our favorite culinary punchline no more?

Maybe the Advocate can get all the details (even though I scooped them on the story!).

UPDATE: The only number I could find for Sabatiello's just gives you a busy signal. More to come...

Oooh, good scoop! I'm out of town this weekend so you'll have to confirm if they are really closed!

According to this thread at Chowhound, Sabatiello's was sold and a Spanish restaurant is moving in.

I'm in full support of a Tapas Bar downtown (I'll take two if Barcelona at the old Zinc ever happens)

Only if it's going to be a true Spanish restaurant and not Mexican.

Hey Mr. Z - thanks for the Chowhound research. Someone even referenced a certain "local blog" (they couldn't post a link?). :)

It'll be interesting to see what happens on that corner. It's a great space, but it's on the tail end of the Bedford St. restaurant row.

JR, I'm sure she's just intimidated by the rough looking crew that patrols the mean streetsofstamford.com. Wouldn't you be?

I agree -- the space is cool, but the location isn't very visible.

A unique destination type of place could survive that predicament though...

They had new tableside meat service - HOW could they have possibly failed! ;)

You scooped it! Oh well, no great loss. I was horrified by the tv show. Horrified.

Damn, I just heard it's closed and I live at The Classics. Had no idea it was on Kitchen Nightmare's. Hear Ciprianni's might buy it too. Who knows.
